Frequently Asked Questions

Find quick answers to common questions about our fence & deck building process, customization options, permits, and materials.

How long does a pressure treated deck last in Calgary?

A properly built pressure treated deck typically lasts 25 years or more in the Calgary climate. The treatment protects the wood itself; frost-depth footings and correct fastening protect the structure.

When can I stain a new pressure treated deck?

Fresh treated lumber needs to dry before it will take stain — usually a few months to a full season depending on weather. We’ll tell you when yours is ready and what products hold up best here.

Do I need a permit for a pressure treated deck in Calgary?

Most decks higher than 0.6 m (2 ft) above grade require a permit in Calgary, and attached decks usually do regardless of height. We handle the permit application and manage inspections as part of every build.

Is pressure treated cheaper than cedar or composite?

Yes — pressure treated is the most affordable decking material installed. Cedar costs more up front for its looks; composite costs more still but needs less maintenance. Many clients pair a treated frame with cedar or composite boards for the best of both.
