A pergola turns an open deck or patio into a place you'll actually sit on a July afternoon. We design and build them in cedar and Douglas fir, attached to a new or existing deck or standing on their own footings in the yard.

Cedar resists rot and insects naturally, is light for its size and weathers to a soft grey if you leave it. Douglas fir is stronger and stiffer, which suits big timbers and longer spans, and it takes stain well.
A pergola can use both: Douglas fir where the load is, cedar where the look is. We'll recommend the wood based on the size and span you want.
A pergola added to a deck needs its posts carried down to proper footings, not just screwed to the deck boards. Building both at once is the easiest way to get that right, but we add pergolas to existing decks too, after checking the structure.

A pergola is mostly open. A cabana adds louvered privacy walls, fixed or sliding.
