Our Patio Cover Building Services

As a dedicated patio cover builder, we handle every phase of the project from concept through construction, from the footings and posts that carry a loaded roof through to the flashing where the structure meets your home. Every covered patio we build is engineered for the snow and wind loads the Alberta Building Code requires, detailed to keep water away from the wall it attaches to, and finished so it reads as part of the house rather than something bolted on afterwards.

Patio Cover Styles We Build

Attached Solid-Roof Patio Cover

A solid roof tied directly into your home, giving you a sheltered extension of the house that stays dry in rain and sheds snow through winter. The most common choice for a covered patio off a kitchen or living room.

Freestanding Patio Cover

A standalone covered structure set away from the house, ideal for sheltering a firepit area, hot tub or outdoor kitchen without altering your existing roofline or triggering an addition.

Louvered Roof Patio Cover

An adjustable-slat roof that closes to a watertight panel in rain and opens for filtered light and airflow when the weather turns. The closest thing to having both a pergola and a solid cover.

Insulated Patio Cover

A roof built with an insulated core that cuts heat transfer and dampens the drumming of rain and hail, making the space underneath noticeably quieter and more comfortable in midsummer.

Lattice / Open-Top Patio Cover

A partially open roof that filters sun rather than blocking it entirely. Lighter over a garden or walkway where full shade would be unwelcome, and the nearest style to a traditional pergola.

Custom Patio Cover

A fully tailored structure built to your exact dimensions, roof pitch and material preferences, designed around an existing deck, cabana or carport so the whole outdoor space reads as one project.

What a Professional Patio Cover Builder Brings to Your Project

A covered patio is a roof, and a roof carries load. Patio cover construction involves real structural engineering, properly sized footings, and flashing detail at the wall junction that amateur builds and general handymen routinely get wrong. Getting it wrong shows up as a sagging beam, a frost-heaved post, or water tracking back into your siding.

Precise Craftsmanship

Clean cuts, tight joints, and level beams define a well-built pergola and separate professional work from rough DIY construction.

Design Cohesion

A skilled pergola builder designs structures that complement your home's architecture, landscape, and existing outdoor features rather than looking like an afterthought.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find quick answers to common questions about our fence & deck building process, customization options, permits, and materials.

What is the difference between a patio cover and a pergola?

The roof. A pergola is open-topped or louvered, built to filter light and define a space while still letting sun and rain through. A patio cover carries a solid, sealed roof engineered to shed snow and rain, so the area underneath stays dry and usable year round. Choose a pergola for filtered light and architectural framing; choose a patio cover when you want the space beneath it genuinely protected from the weather.

Do I need a permit for a patio cover in Calgary?

Yes. The City of Calgary requires a building permit when you are building a covered deck, meaning a deck with a pergola or roof over it. If the roof is attached to your home the City treats the structure as an addition; if it is freestanding it is treated as an accessory building, and each follows its own permit path. A development permit is additionally required if the design does not meet the Land Use Bylaw, for example on setbacks. We handle the application and the drawings as part of the build. Requirements change, so we confirm the current rule with the City on every project.

What materials are used for patio covers?

Cedar for warmth and a natural finish, aluminium for a slim low-maintenance frame that will not rot or need staining, and composite for the look of timber with far less upkeep. Roofing runs from solid panels and insulated cores to adjustable louvers and polycarbonate where you want light through. We match the material to your house, your budget and how exposed the site is, and we work with the same manufacturers listed above.

Can a patio cover handle Calgary snow load?

It has to, and that is the main reason a covered patio is an engineered structure rather than a carpentry project. A solid roof collects and holds snow where an open pergola lets most of it through, so posts, beams and footings are all sized for the ground snow load the Alberta Building Code sets for Calgary, plus drifting where the roof meets the house. Footings go below the frost line so the repeated freeze and thaw of a Calgary chinook cannot lift them. We size every structure to the current code figures for your specific site rather than to a rule of thumb.
